What’s it all about?

This blog is dedicated to the use of humor and humility to push past notions of transness as a set of behaviors, beliefs, and mannerisms. This is for people who are tired of being told we must prove ourselves through binary-gendering means, and believe that while some of these aspects of our lived experiences are effects of our gender identification, they are not the cause.

This is a blog for folks of various trans, genderqueer, bigender, gender-nonconforming, two-spirit, genderfucked, and other queerly gendered identities both inside and outside of the binary to share their ideas of things that are true about their gendered lives that they do not personally feel should be used to legitimize their gender one way or another. This is not a blog that intends to invalidate anyone’s understanding of self or render anyone’s identity invisible. It’s a space to be honest with your experiences, this is not about silencing anyone’s idea of what it means to be trans, just about pushing the boundaries to open up that understanding. This is also not a space for disguised transphobia. Rather, it is a place for transfolk to vent their frustration and joy at living in a world that asks only certain individuals for proof of their genders. I hope that you will let me know if I am failing in those goals.

The proposed format of this blog is short, statement-style submissions and entries that are something along the lines of “[insert something that is true of your experience] did not make me trans,” but I welcome everyone to get creative with that. I’d love to see photos (not necessarily of you, though those are certainly welcome) and artwork and poems and anything else you can think of.

I can’t wait!

Love and eyeliner,
